Kidz Fishing Snaps

Waimamaku Wild West Festival saw lots of kids hooked on fishing. Jack Crosbie is on holiday at Omapere and hoping to catch his dinner off the wharf. Ben Nilsson had a great day out on Bluey and came home with this nice snapper and trevally. He has heaps more fishing points than his dad, Doug. Well done Ben. Mrkl Te Whata is really excited about the big ling Maca helped him catch. Dillon Mitt had a great day out and put this lovely big snapper on the dinner table for all the whanau to enjoy. This john dory was an easy catch for Ben Nilsson when it just flipped out of the water onto the sand. Miles of smiles and lots of fun at the KIDS FISHING and FUN day at Omapere. Kids and Dads all had a great day with lots of prizes to be won. Look at my fish....What a cute and happy little fisherman.... Mike Franich weighing in Jack McIntyre's sprat catch. This young lass has just learned to cast and hopefully will weigh in a nice fish one day soon. What a catch....11 year old Jack McIntyre's 143.6kg marlin...Awesome. Great prizes were handed out at the Kids Fun Day, Omapere. Yvette Martin holding the Junior Heaviest Snapper trophy she won with a 6.5kg snapper caught off Bluey. Great catch Yvette. Jack with his 5.23kg snapper. Nice one Jack.

Free Junior FISHING and FUN Day

2015 Junior Fishing Contest

It was a wild and windy day but 30 odd junior anglers braved the conditions and had a great time in this, the first shoreline Junior Fishing Contest. Grayson Glasgow and Cameron Horan helped Aunty Sam set up and tidy up for the contest. Good on you boys. You tried so hard all day for a fish. Young Shavarn Vickery had a marvelous day and took home the 1st and 2nd Snapper cash prizes. Congratulations Shavarn. Grandpa Mike Brenstrum teaching Jack and Sam Crosbie how to wind in their first land-based fish. Great effort Jack, but it was a little bit too small to be legal so was carefully released into the Hokianga Harbour. Sam learning some more fishing skills from Grandpa Brenstrum. A nice .775 Kahawai was a good result for 4yr old Sam Crosbie. Audrey Waaka was on hand all day to help out with registrations and prize giving. She is presenting Shavarn Vickery with 1st and 2nd prize for the Heaviest Snapper. Young Tarquin Maoate landed a .765 Trevally to take out the Heaviest Trevally 1st prize. Congratulations Tarquin. Your fish gave you a good fight to remember. Heaviest Fish Overall winner is young Skye Hawkins who was holidaying with her Nanny when she entered the contest. This will be a holiday to remember Skye. Linda and John Pattinson kindly donated a $400 fishing trip from Westerburg II Charters for the Heaviest Fish Overall. Congratulations Skye. An awesome prize for you and your Whanau. Skye's Nanny reading her the prize she has just won. Enjoy... Lucky Sam Crosbie collects an awesome tackle box full of goodies in the draw for all contestants. Another lucky draw winner. And another winner of a tackle box full of fishing gear. Congratulations. Part of the team of helpers. Thanks for a great day. It was really pleasing to see families out enjoying land based fishing on the shores of our beautiful Hokianga Harbour. See you all again next year we hope. What a memorable day for this little girl from Waimauku.
