A & E was the theme and these kids, along with Sam were just the part. Well done. More of the Land-Based trophies won by a very competitive Barbara Ward who has again proven that the early bird usually gets the biggest fish. Anthony Wright has every reason to be smiling after taking out the Heaviest Marlin prize. What a catch. 11 year old Jack McIntyre stole the show this year with his well earned 5 trophies. Most adults would be very envious of his achievements. Congratulations Jack. You are a winner. Jack McIntyre with his very proud Pop, Fred McIntyre. Mike and Janice Brenstrum presented Jack McIntyre with this special trophy made from the bill of his 143.6kg striped marlin caught off the Hokianga earlier this year.

2014 Marlin Season Snaps

Mayor John Carter proved himself a good sport at the Waimamaku Wild West Festival, February 2014. He won himself a chocolate fish for his efforts. It's not very big but it is the first official weigh in for Les Stewart and they can only get bigger from here on Les. This 1.8kg Mahi Mahi took the 37kg line when Dave Clarkin was really looking for a marlin which he was fortunate to find the next day. Dave Clarkin boated this 108.7kg Striped Marlin to claim both the First Marlin of the Season and the First Marlin in the Marlin Hunt. Well done Dave... Les Stewart, our newly elected weigh-master, has been kept busy and is certainly very obliging. Service with a smile. Thank you Les. New club members Brian Jones and Brian Mankelow proved that the marlin are out there with this lovely 119kg marlin boated the day after they tagged and released one in the same area. Great team effort guys. I'm sure you will be back up our way again soon. It has taken Doug Nilsson 12 long years but this fish has been worth the wait-just not in $$$ terms says Doug. Young Ben Nilsson was on a double but after 15mins his fell off. Doug says 'just as well'; if Ben had beaten his dad with his first marlin he would never have lived it down. Game Az is having lots of fun here in the Hokianga. They attract plenty of marlin even when they're not keeping a keen sharp eye out. Some people are born lucky. This Marlin was landed on 10kg line during the recent Nationals Contest. Most of the 26 boats crossing the bar each day were in the 8 day Nationals Contest. Our first Broadbill of the season was a lovely 205.8kg. Congratulations Profishionals.....

Medina, Diane and Denyze survived a pretty rough day as the Happy Hookers Team. We all admire your efforts Medina and Crew. Footprint's operator William was our Judge for our Bra for a Cause competition. Thank you William. Medina and her Happy Hookers had the time of their lives and are not likely to forget their day in a hurry. We will be seeing them next year for sure. The
